Hello, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome here for another Hot Toys figure of view.
Box
Today we will be taking a look at the John Wick from John Wick Chapter II, and I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve been looking forward to this figure since I saw him in person at ACGHK. What we’re going to do now is get all of John Wick’s accessories out here and take a look at everything he comes with him.
Accessories
All right, let this John Wick figure set the record straight when it comes to the price versus accessories debate. Look how much stuff this guy comes with for a regular figure release compare that to something that came out back in the day being the Iron Man Mark I (2.0), he went with a display vase two hands and a flame thrower effect. I’m pretty sure the price was even higher than this John Wick figure. But either way, let’s start looking at the stuff that John Wick comes with him.
Display Base:
He comes with the avengers’ style display base. I do like the hexagonal display bases. They stack in quite nicely. They’re not too big, but they would do an excellent job of giving you the look of the character. I do like the blood marker style effect on the top there with a lovely sort of silvery wash all over it.
And I do like the John wick print on the front, the only critique that I have is I wish that that was metal like back in the day.
Blood Marker:
It also does come with the blood marker, speaking of that, it does nicely, and it’s got a little piece, sort of like blood fingerprint mark on there. It’s gory, but I love it, and you can see that there are the skull and crown on the top, much like on the outside of the close blood marker. It is pleasant to know that he does come with this a random piece that he didn’t interact with within the film, but I’m glad that Hot Toys gave it to us nonetheless. Anything that he includes multiples of I has just brought out one, so same thing with that shotgun shell there, but I did bring out just one stack he comes with three of these and four of the individual coins. But you can see a nice sort of black wash throughout, it’s a nice stack of coins they are all sort of molded a little bit differently, getting the little coin out here, it’s tiny, but I’ll do I’d better show you on there. It looks like a lion or something.
Weapon - AR-15:
Starting to take a look at some of the accessories, this is his AR-15, which has heavily modified. Double magazine on the side; a scope on the top;
A sight on the side;
It’s nice to say that hot toys have gone to this level of detail with the weapon. And it does have a moving functioning part;
And you can flip down this piece here, and that’s where these spent casings do come out if there was a real fire.
Weapon - KSG:
It also does come with the KSG.
It’s a beautiful looking weapon with a night sight which has a translucent effect piece there. You can move the sight forward and backward, but this is where it comes out of the box.
Weapon - Benelli M4:
It also does come with the Benelli M4, really nice weapon here.
And you can see that it does have this sliding action, and these sort of emergency shell that he does use in the film when he runs out and puts it on the guy’s shirt chest loads one in and then obviously takes care of business.
Weapon - HK P30:
He also does come with the HK P30 here with the compensator on the front.
They all do have moving actions on the top there, and you can remove the magazines.
I have taken the liberty of installing all the magazines, I have tiny nails, so it’s hard to get them out, but they can remove from all of the weapons.
Weapon - Glock 26:
And he does come with the Glock 26, which is a much smaller sort of Glock weapon.
I do like all printing on the side, and there’s a nice texture on all the grips.
Weapon - Glock 34:
And then he also does come with the Glock 34 here, which is a nice piece.
It’s got a nice gold sort of internal section there, and again, you can remove the magazine.
Weapon - M1911:
He also does come with this M1911, or someone was saying it’s a Kimber Warrior or something like that, but anyway, it looks good. I am pretty sure this is the gun that Laurence Fishburne’s character gives him at the Bowery.
They look nice, a little box that it does come with as well, and it’s not wood, but it has a nice wood grain effect on there, and a nice velvety looking interior.
Weapon - Knife:
There also comes with a knife which done nicely. It doesn’t retract or anything; it’s just a basic knife.
I’m pretty sure this is similar to what we got with the Joker DX11.
Weapon - Pencil:
He does come with the infamous pencil, which used to kill a bunch of people in the film. This pencil does not write, do not try and use this to write on a piece of paper! Some reviewers might tell you that does, and it’s just the black paint on the edge scratching off. This pencil isn’t by no means a real pencil, so don’t destroy your accessories for the sake of entertainment purposes.
Weapon - Shotgun Shells:
And he comes with a couple of these shotgun shells as well.
Hands:
He does come with a bunch of hands, what’s unique about the hands is there is a wedding ring sculpted and painted on here, so that means we’ve got brand-new individual sculpted for the hands, which I do appreciate.
That’s pretty much it for the accessories; there was a whole lot of stuff, and I’m glad we could get through it. Forgive me if I misname some of the pistols. There is a whole bunch of things that I had to learn before this review.
Figure
What I’m going to do is get the figure himself out here and give you a look at that John Wick’s head sculpt.
Here we have John Wick himself, and he looks just so awesome. Hot Toys have nailed it with this head sculpture, in my opinion. I love the blood effect that they’ve put on.
And I do like the fact that they’ve done the hair, so it’s in front of the actual ears, not behind, I wouldn’t say I like the tuck behind the look that some of the third-party head sculpture has done. I much prefer the hair out and more flowing that gives him more of athletic combat look when his hair is going everywhere, not all perfectly pristinely tucked behind. So, you can’t have him in some crazy shooting poses, and obviously, he does have blood everywhere, his hair wouldn’t be pristine.
In terms of the outfit itself, Hot Toys have done a marvelous job with the outfit, I mean, it fits nicely on the figure. Also, I do appreciate that they’ve included magnets in the vest so that you can keep the tie pinned in place. Because if you’ve ever had a sixth scale figure with a shirt and tie and everything you have imposing crazy poses, you would know that this tie often goes flying out everywhere. I’m appreciative of the fact that Hot Toys took care of that make.
And say that the suit is very slim fitting so you might think that the articulation is super hindered, however, if you do sort of angle, you can get him where his arm even goes all the way up. So it’s not as restricted as some of the other reviewers would have you believe, you can get image some awesome crazy shooting poses.
Just being a pair of black suit pants and black shoes is not a hell of a lot to talk about down here, but they do sit nicely on the boots if you do have them situated correctly.
Take a look at these shoes themselves, there is a nice level of speckling just on the tip of these shoes itself, which I do appreciate, and there’s a real soul underneath. He’s a little bit slippery to stand up when you are posing him, but the crotch grabber does help. I do appreciate the fact that out of that weathering because in the film obviously, he was running around the catacombs getting a little bit dirty. So I’m glad that they did that little bit of weathering.
Three Cools & Three Annoying Things about John Wick
3 Cool Things:
- The first cool thing is the fact that he includes one of these cardboard display bases. I always love it when Hot Toys give us these display pieces because it sets the scene for where the figure is taken from, and I love having the figure in his element.
- A second cool thing while it’s not the likeness it’s the fact that he does have a pin through his collar there, and it’s nice little attention to detail that you wouldn’t expect from any other third party companies. But Hot Toys does deliver the goods.
- The third cool thing is the fact that we get this sheer amount of accessories that we do with this figure, I mean he does come with a bunch of weapons. It seems whenever we’re going to get a Keanu Reeves figure, it’s going to be coming with a bunch of guns and I love that.
3 Annoying Things:
- The first annoying thing about this John wick figure is the way they’ve done the ankles. They’ve done it, so the ball joint is in the middle of the shoe, so you can push it backward or forward, which means he does struggle to stand if you don’t have it perfectly centered.
- A second annoying thing about John wick and you can probably easily fix this with a lot of futzing, but it’s the fact that his collar sits rather high. So it makes it look like at least from the side that he has no neck.
- The third annoying thing is that there is no dedicated hand to hold a pencil. You can see the grip on these hands is far too wide to hold the pencil itself.
Summary
Just wrapping up on this Hot Toys John Wick figure, Hot Toys have done it again. They have blown me away with the attention to detail on not only the head scope but the outfit and the accessories for this release. This figure is by far, by a long way the best John Wick on the market today.
That’s pretty much a given with Hot Toys coming in and making this figure some of the third-party ones were good for the time the kids that you could buy and put together. I’ve owned some, but this definitely blows it away especially when it comes to their head sculpt, I much prefer the look of the hair towards the front then tucked behind the back like the Eleven head sculpture. It’s not a bad piece, but I just preferred this Hot Toys one.
If you are a John Wick fan, you’ll be doing yourself a disservice not to go ahead and pick up this figure before it skyrockets in value because I think it’s going to. The arms might be a little tiny bit restricted because of the actual jacket itself. However, if you don’t mind getting a few crazies in there, you can get a lot of John Wick crazy fighting style poses.
Still, you might see some crisis, and it’s nowhere near as restricted as some of the other reviewers might have led you to believe. Those early reviews do paint this figure in a bad light, and it’s not the case. This figure is one hell of an awesome release, and it deserves a great review to go along with the excellent production value that Hot Toys do put into their products. Like comment and subscribe, and I’ll catch you in the next review.
